Pioneer's Pro DVD Recorders and Players Enhance Courtroom Experiences Nationwide

Pioneer's PRV-9000, DVR-A04 Recorders and DVD-V7400 DVD Players Help Legalink Create and Deliver High Impact DVD for Law Firms

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. and LegaLink, Inc., an international litigation support and technology company, are providing attorneys with powerful, easy-to-use tools that deliver demonstrative evidence, testimony and much more in court via DVD technology.

Legal videography is a high impact tool whose popularity and use has more than doubled in the past two years and is currently deployed in approximately 25% of all trials. Digitized video has become the standard for courtroom playback of testimony and this has increased the demand for large portable storage medium. DVD is the ideal delivery medium for its efficiency, ease of use, and unparalleled quality. Using Pioneer's PRV-9000 and DVR-A04 DVD recorders, LegaLink can quickly create DVD discs for its law firm clients. In addition, Pioneer's DVD-V7400 industrial DVD-Video players, which are included in LegaLink presentation systems, provide law firms the ability to instantaneously access information on DVD during trial, reducing paperwork and minimizing costs for engaging judges and jurors.

"LegaLink's mission is to provide attorneys with technology tools that aid in the presentation of their cases," said Brian Clune, vice president of video services for LegaLink, Inc. "DVD is the best recordable video format available. Pioneer's PRV-9000 and DVR-A04 recorders, and DVD-V7400 players allow us to record video and data content quickly and easily onto DVD for distribution to attorneys and their clients, and to provide a courtroom playback solution for firms worldwide."

Using Pioneer's recorders, LegaLink can easily, quickly, and cost-effectively create high quality DVD video and data discs for their demanding attorney clients. For video-based presentations, LegaLink assembles and edits depositions and other video segments, and then connects to Pioneer's PRV-9000 pro video recorder to deliver high quality DVD copies for courtroom and attorney use. Offering DV (IEEE-1394), S-Video and composite video inputs, the PRV-9000 allows LegaLink to choose from various recording sources for added flexibility and enables LegaLink to stop-and-start recording to insert chapter marks where appropriate.

Alternatively, for data DVDs containing important court documents, LegaLink creates MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 files and records onto one DVD disc using Pioneer's DVR-A04 recordable DVD computer drive. Having one DVD disc with all the important documents significantly decreases the paper created by depositions, testimony and discovery.

Using the PRV-9000 or DVR-A04, LegaLink can record onto DVD-R (write-once) discs on either the recorder or the drive. The security offered by DVD-R assures LegaLink's clients that their highly sensitive information will not be changed or tampered with.

"With the amount of paperwork involved in running a law firm, it's not surprising that attorneys welcome the idea of using DVD as an alternative video, data storage and presentation solution," said Linda Toleno, vice president of industrial video sales and marketing for the Business Solutions Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Both the PRV-9000 and DVR-A04 recorders empower LegaLink to create DVD content for attorneys quickly and easily while the DVD-V7400 provides content playback in a far superior format than any other available."

Catering to the needs of civil trial attorneys, LegaLink not only produces and creates DVD-Video discs for use during trial, but also provides systems containing Pioneer's industrial DVD-V7400 DVD-Video player to enable firms to present the DVD-Video discs during trial. The systems come with the DVD-V7400, accompanying barcode equipment, and a monitor. Pioneer's barcoding system allows LegaLink to create DVD discs with chapter marks that can be instantly accessed during trial by scanning a corresponding barcode created using Pioneer's software.
